ABOUT
HOW IT STARTED
Founded through the collaboration of individuals who grew up in Mathare and like-minded supporters from around the world. SlumRise draws from the founders’ personal experiences of overcoming the difficulties of the slums. We know what it takes because we’ve lived it.
So we want to create a more supportive and enabling environment than the one we’ve grew up in.
OUR APPROACH
This project is designed as a collaborative effort in which the community is not only the focus but also the driving force. SlumRise is our essential link, and because its members are themselves community members, their voices and priorities shape every stage of the project. Decisions are taken collectively, and we ensure that local knowledge is valued alongside technical expertise.
OUR VALUES
BOTTOM-UP APPROACH
We pride our work by talking to everyone of the community and understanding their needs with them
STOP DEPENDENCY SYNDROME
Working together with the kids and the adults of the community
BUILD FUTURE GENERATION
Education is the key to freedom and peace. We want to ensure it for the kids of Mathare and also for the population in general.
BUILD A BRIDGE WITH EUROPE
